Northvolt is planning to build a gigafactory for battery production in Heide / Schleswig-Holstein. The battery production has a high energy consumption: about 2 TWh of electricity and a peak load of 250 MW. There are a several topics to be defined around energy procurement strategy as well as the operational implementation during the ramp-up phase of the factory. A target model is needed that encompasses, structures and prioritises all issues of energy procurement and energy optimisation.
E-Bridge has already worked on numerous complex issues for Northvolt. The expertise of E-Bridge was extended by INTENSE AG within the scope of this project. Both companies supported Northvolt in planning the energy procurement and optimisation of the Gigafactory Heide (Energy Management Target Model) and in deriving an implementation path. The starting point for the target model was a definition of the procurement principles, based on the greenest and most sustainable energy procurement possible.
For the initial commissioning of the Gigafactory, a basic set of capabilities and processes was first required on the part of Northvolt. These core requirements were complemented by additional optimisation potential.
Northvolt received an implementable target model for the energy management of the new Gigafactory in Heide, which includes the relevant technical, regulatory and economic framework of energy procurement and energy optimisation. In addition, an implementation path with processes, resources and scheduling was derived and prepared for implementation with various partners.
