Alpiq aimed to expand its understanding of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in Germany, particularly regarding grid connection regulations and market opportunities. With growing interest in co-located BESS projects, Alpiq needed insights into connection privileges, flexible connection agreements (FCA), and the financial implications of the construction charge (Baukostenzuschuss – BKZ). To address these challenges, Alpiq engaged E-Bridge to conduct a focused workshop, providing an overview of technical requirements, regulatory frameworks, and business model development.

E-Bridge designed and facilitated a two-hour interactive workshop covering four key topics: grid connection privileges for BESS vs. renewable energy systems, FCA structures and implementation, co-location opportunities, and BKZ (Baukostenzuschuss). The workshop provided detailed regulatory insights, practical case studies, and strategic recommendations to help Alpiq optimize its grid integration strategy. Participants engaged in discussions on grid connection processes, market participation, and revenue models, with E-Bridge addressing company-specific challenges and best practices from other markets.

The workshop enabled Alpiq to develop a structured approach to BESS grid connections, improving its ability to navigate regulatory complexities and optimize financial planning. With enhanced knowledge of connection privileges, FCA negotiation strategies, and market-based revenue opportunities, Alpiq gained a clearer perspective on investment decisions and operational efficiencies. The insights from the session helped shape future project development, positioning Alpiq for successful BESS deployment in the German energy market.
