Ambitious targets have been set for new consumers and renewable energy producers as part of the Easter package framework. However, achieving these goals will require a rapid connection of these customers to the grid. Despite the fundamental entitlement to establish a grid connection upon request, the process is often delayed and falls short of the requirements for a fast and ambitious ramp-up. The transition to a changing energy supply will largely take place in the distribution grid and across all levels of the grid. This presents new challenges that require the existing processes for grid connection tests and production to adapt, especially for large and differently digitised grid operators.

E-Bridge together with ef.Ruhr GmbH, BET Büro für Energiewirtschaft und technische Planung GmbH, and Aecoute° PartGmbB developed proposals for deadlines for grid connections for both generators and consumers. The aim was to consider a wide range of generator/load and grid operator situations, as well as the area of grid connection commitments and production. However, the project excluded smaller rooftop PV systems, as they was already been addressed in an amendment to the EEG. Nevertheless, these specifications should also contribute to a consistent overall picture. The project also does not focus on the area of flexible consumers at the LV level.

The team provided the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection with suggestions for deadlines for grid connections for producers and consumers.
