Stadtentwässerung Hannover (SEH) is planning to set up a combined oxygen and hydrogen production facility. Important investment decisions are currently pending, the (imputed) depreciation of which, together with the forecast operating costs, represent the expense side of the business plan. The pricing and possible price development of green electricity, but also subsidies and other transfer payments or compensations are significant parameters on the income side that influence the sustainable economic viability of the project. An evaluated green power procurement strategy is required for economic implementation.
First, the structure and development of the green power market was discussed and presented in an understandable way. The focus was on the possibilities of electricity procurement and PPA design. In the second step, the drivers and the expected development of hydrogen production costs were identified and presented. With the help of a competitor analysis, the electricity procurement models that were analysed in the first step are classified. All the contents developed was presented in two training workshops in order to develop a guideline for economic green power purchasing for the purpose of hydrogen generation together with the client.
We created an overview of the green power market for the customer, showed the procurement options for green power and examined the development of hydrogen production costs and their drivers. Based on the results of this research, two training workshops were held for the customer. Within the framework of these workshops, we also succeeded in developing a procurement strategy for green electricity for the economic production of hydrogen.
