Our study on the efficiency of market-based procurement of non-frequency ancillary services (nfAS) in Austria has now been published! The aim of the analysis was to examine whether, and under which conditions, market-based procurement of specific nfAS is economically efficient, with consideration for both current circumstances and projections up to 2030. This analysis is an important cornerstone for the implementation of the Internal Electricity Market Directive (EU) 2019/944, which generally stipulates market-based procurement, but allows for exemptions where economic efficiency is not achieved.

We had the opportunity to present the key findings at E-Control in Vienna: Our colleague Gerald Blumberg presented the results together with Marco Greve from ef.Ruhr GmbH.

We are pleased that with this project, we were able to make a contribution to the implementation of the Internal Electricity Market Directive and to the further development of approaches to procuring nfAS in Austria. Our heartfelt thanks go to E-Control for the trust and constructive collaboration, as well as to Marco Greve and Friederike Berger from ef.Ruhr for the excellent partnership in this undertaking! If you are interested, have feedback, or any questions, our colleagues Gerald Blumberg or Henrik Schwaeppe would be happy to hear from you.
