Under the motto “20 years to climate neutrality – challenges and solutions”, our colleagues were also actively involved in the discussion at the FGE conference of the IAEW at RWTH Aachen University. The focus was on the ambitious goals of the Easter package for the expansion of renewable energies and decarbonization as well as the necessary investments and the urgent need for action.
Our Managing Director Henning Schuster moderated the “Distribution system operators of the future” session today. It quickly became clear how complex the challenges in the distribution grid are – from extremely high capacity requirements, which are accompanied by many uncertainties, to the enormous need for financing. The need for action is comprehensive in order to successfully shape the “new normal”.
Other sessions also made this clear: Time is of the essence and decisive action under uncertainty is essential. Clearer framework conditions would be helpful, but are a long time coming. We need bold decisions in order to move forward – for example through long-term purchase commitments and secure investments, which are becoming increasingly difficult.
We must not wait, but act in order to achieve our goals despite the uncertainties.
