GIGA Storage is an energy storage company that develops, creates and deploys large-scale energy storage projects. GIGA Storage places batterie storage systems (BESS) at strategic locations in the grid and contributes to creating a reliable, affordable and sustainable energy system. GIGA Storage has extensive pipelines of energy storage projects in Europe totalling more than 10 GWh in various phases. In order to evaluate und determine future strategic options, GIGA Storage wants to gain knowledge and insights on market readiness and attractiveness regarding BESS project development in Germany.

The objective of the study was gaining knowledge and valuable insights on market readiness and market attractiveness of Germany. The study was conducted in three work packages:

• Market analysis on readiness and attractiveness
• Competitor analysis
• Stakeholder and partner assessment for market entry

The study analysed the market readiness and attractiveness as well as limiting factors in Germany. Furthermore, the competitive landscape was evaluated, the position of the TSO/DSO was assessed, potential partners and stakeholders for collaboration and alignment were identified. Concrete recommendations and steps for the German market entry have been developed.
