N-ERGIE Netz GmbH is facing the challenge of transforming its gas network strategy in light of long-term developments in the energy sector. While climate-neutral gases play a central role in the energy transition, the demand for gas transportation is expected to decrease significantly. Uncertainty about the future role of hydrogen and the dynamic development of the energy transition make strategic planning difficult. The aim is to develop a robust and sustainable target network that minimizes investment risks and makes optimal use of regulatory leeway.
E-Bridge is supporting N-ERGIE Netz GmbH in the development of a detailed gas grid transformation strategy. First, a comprehensive scenario analysis was carried out to identify the long-term trends and influencing factors along the entire value chain of renewable gases. Based on this, regional demand forecasts were created and integrated into a GIS model that takes into account the future requirements for the grid structure. In a further step, evaluation and prioritization criteria were defined in order to systematically analyse and categorize sub-networks. Finally, the strategic, financial and regulatory implications of the gas grid transformation were derived and recorded in a detailed action plan.
The project resulted in a clear strategic direction for the gas network transformation of N-ERGIE Netz GmbH. The prepared scenarios provide a reliable basis for long-term planning, while the GIS model accurately depicts regional differences and specific requirements. The systematic evaluation and prioritization of the sub-networks made it possible to develop a targeted action plan that reduces investment risks and at the same time exploits regulatory freedom. The results strengthen the strategic position of N-ERGIE Netz GmbH and create the basis for a sustainable and future-proof gas network strategy.
